Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 30, 2026
Como ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Como is a personal support companion for people navigating disordered eating and difficult moments around food. Because of the sensitive nature of this app, we treat your data with extra care.
1. What we collect
Account information
- Email address - used to create and sign in to your account
- User ID - a unique identifier assigned when you create an account, used to link your data
Health and wellbeing information
When you use Como you may share:
- Mood and emotional state check-ins
- Hunger and fullness scores
- Eating moment logs and patterns
- Moment type (urge, aftermath, reflection)
This information is treated as sensitive health data.
Conversations and content
- Messages you type to the Como companion
- Voice input you speak to the companion (processed into text, and used for optional spoken replies)
- Conversation summaries saved for context between sessions
- Photos you optionally attach to check-ins
Usage information
- Which features you use (e.g. tools completed, programs started)
- Session timestamps
2. How we use your information
We use your information only to provide and improve Como. Specifically:
- To power the companion experience and remember context across conversations
- To show you your own history, trends, and insights
- To deliver programs and tools relevant to your situation
- To keep your account secure
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with third parties for their own independent purposes. The only sharing that occurs is with the service providers described in "AI processing" and "Third-party services" below, who act on our behalf to provide Como to you.
3. AI processing and data sharing
Como's companion replies (and optional spoken voice) are generated using OpenAI, a third-party AI service. To create a response, Como sends the following to OpenAI through Como's secure backend:
- The text you type or the voice you speak to the companion
- Relevant recent conversation context and saved conversation summaries
- Relevant app context, which may include recent check-ins and information you provided during onboarding
- Saved preferences relevant to your request
Who it is sent to: OpenAI, L.L.C., acting as our data processor to generate and return your response (and, when enabled, to transcribe your voice and produce a spoken reply).
Purpose: solely to generate the companion's reply for you. OpenAI processes this data on our behalf to provide the feature you requested.
Protection: We send this data to OpenAI under their API terms and data processing terms, which provide protections equivalent to those described in this policy. Under these terms, OpenAI does not use data submitted through the API to train its models, and data is retained only for a limited period for abuse monitoring before deletion. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (TLS). You can review OpenAI's practices in the OpenAI Privacy Policy.
Your control: You must agree to AI data sharing before you can talk with the companion. Only a short summary of each conversation — not the full chat — is saved for context and analytics, and you can turn on Incognito mode in any conversation to save nothing at all.
4. How we store your data
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a cloud infrastructure provider. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Authentication tokens are stored in your device's secure Keychain.
5. Third-party services
Como uses the following third-party services:
| Service | Purpose |
|---|---|
| OpenAI | Generates companion replies, transcribes voice input, and produces optional spoken replies (see "AI processing" above) |
| Supabase | Database, authentication, and file storage |
| Firebase Analytics | Website usage analytics |
| Apple Sign In | Optional sign-in method |
| Google Sign In | Optional sign-in method |
We do not use advertising SDKs or data brokers. Firebase Analytics helps us understand aggregate website usage.
6. Your rights
You can, at any time:
- Access your data - view your check-ins, logs, and conversations inside the app
- Delete your account - go to Me → Account → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and all associated data. This cannot be undone.
- Opt out of saving conversations - turn on Incognito mode in any conversation so no summary is saved
7. Children
Como is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date at the top and notify you through the app. Continued use of Como after changes means you accept the updated policy.
